Williamson County Garage Door Repair Call (737) 345-3608

Garage Door Repair in Round Rock and Williamson County

Williamson County garage doors get baseball hail in September, a March tornado now and then, and 100 degree garages all summer. When one of those finally takes the door out, the truck arrives with springs, cables, rollers and openers on board, and most doors are running again before it leaves.

Round Rock home base. Georgetown to Taylor, Jarrell down to Cedar Park. Monday to Saturday, 7am to 7pm, and a car trapped inside goes first.

Why Williamson County garage doors fail the way they do

Round Rock garage doors go through summers with normal highs near 94 degrees and about 13 days a year over 100, a little over 37 inches of rain, hail that rides the I-35 corridor like the September 2023 storm that produced about 6,700 home and auto claims from the Round Rock area in two days, and around 28 nights a year at or below freezing, with the occasional hard freeze like February 2021 when Austin's Camp Mabry dropped to 7 degrees. Heat is the slow killer. A closed garage on the east side of Round Rock sits well over 100 degrees inside on each of those afternoons, the spring steel fatigues all summer, and the door that was fine in August lets go on the first cold morning of December. Hail and wind are the fast ones.

Hail from the northwest, a tornado from the southwest

The September 24, 2023 storm came in over the northwest corner of the county, gained strength through Georgetown and dropped stones more than three inches across on Round Rock and Cedar Park. One Round Rock dealership counted 750 damaged vehicles. Eighteen months before that, on March 21, 2022, an EF-2 tornado came up from the I-35 and SH 45 interchange, damaged 680 homes in Round Rock, destroyed 13 of them and ran on through Hutto to Granger. Kensington, Windy Terrace, Turtle Creek, Forest Grove and Forest Bluff were on the city's damage list. A door that has been through either storm needs more than a look at the dents. Hail pocks the top section; a tornado gust shoves the whole door back against its struts and track bolts, so those get checked before anyone talks about panels. One dented section on a current door is $250 to $800 and the rest of the door stays. A door bowed inward across its width comes out, and on a wide opening or an open lot the replacement is a reinforced one.

Georgetown's new doors and Taylor's old ones

Georgetown was the fastest growing city of 50,000 or more in the country in the Census Bureau's 2021 and 2022 estimates, up 14.4 percent in a single year, and close to half of its homes went up in 2010 or later. Leander, Liberty Hill and Jarrell are younger still, with median homes built in 2013, 2017 and 2015. The calls from those streets are builder doors a few years old: an opener whose force was set high enough to pass the walk-through and never touched again, and rollers that have not seen lubricant since the day they went in. Taylor is the other end of the county. The median home there dates from 1979, about 1,100 houses predate 1940, and a single-car wood door on extension springs is still a normal call, while Samsung's $17 billion plant, in limited operation since 2025, is putting new subdivisions on the fields around town. Round Rock sits between the two: a median home built in 2002, and the 13,800 houses from that decade are reaching the age when the original springs, cables and chain opener wear out within a year or two of each other. Tell us the year the house was built when you call. It says more about the door than the brand on the opener does.

Sun City and Teravista: the committee signs before the door is ordered

About a third of Texas homes sit in a community association, and in the master-planned communities of Round Rock and the rest of Williamson County it is most of them: Teravista alone puts almost 3,400 homes under one association, Sun City Georgetown passed 8,400 homes in 2021, and Avery Ranch, Crystal Falls and Star Ranch all carry association dues, usually with an architectural committee that has to approve a new door style, color or window layout before it goes in. We hand you the spec sheet and a photo of the door to submit, and the door is not ordered until the approval is back.

Permits: Round Rock's rule and Cedar Park's list

Round Rock's building page puts it broadly: any work on a building or structure inside the city needs a permit, and the city tells you to call its development technicians to check. Cedar Park publishes the opposite kind of list, the work that needs no permit, and it names paint, carpet, cabinets, wallpaper, non-structural roof covering and fencing without a word about doors. Between those two, a same-size door or opener swap is normally handled as repair work, while header work, a wider opening or a commercial door is permit work in every city here. The city gets the question before the door is ordered either way.

Home base is Round Rock, and the towns listed below sit inside the same service window. When you call (737) 345-3608, say whether the door is up or down and whether the car is behind it. A door down with the car inside takes the first open slot.

Frequently asked questions

The 2023 hail or the 2022 tornado went through my neighborhood. Does the door have to be replaced?

Not on the strength of dents. Hail hits the top section first because it faces the sky, and one section on a current model is $250 to $800 installed, with the rest of the door left alone. Wind damage is a different inspection. A door that took a tornado gust can be bowed across its width with bent struts and track pulled away from the jamb, and that door comes out. The tech checks the struts, the track bolts and whether the door still runs straight, then gives you one price or the other. A discontinued style can mean a long wait for a matching section, and you hear that before anything is ordered.

I live in Sun City. Can the door be made quieter and easier to run?

Yes. Sun City is a 55-plus community that opened in the mid 1990s, and its first doors run on chain openers that rattle the wall of whatever room sits next to the garage. A belt drive opener with a battery backup runs quietly, keeps working through an outage, and pairs with a keypad at the door so there is no remote to hunt for. The door is balanced and the force limits set on the same visit, because a quiet opener on a heavy, unbalanced door will not stay quiet for long.

What does garage door repair cost in Round Rock?

The service call is $75. It covers the diagnosis and is taken off the bill when the repair goes ahead. A pair of springs is $200 to $400, door rebalanced. Rollers or cables, $120 to $250. An opener, installed and programmed, $350 to $650. One storm-dented section, $250 to $800. A new door, $1,200 to $3,500. The wood doors in old Taylor and any door wider than a stock double sit outside those ranges and are priced at the house.

The house is three years old and the door already bangs and shudders. Is that normal?

Common on builder doors in Leander, Liberty Hill, Jarrell and the newer sections of Hutto. The installer set the opener force high enough to get through the walk-through and nobody touched it again, so the motor drags a door that was never balanced, and the rollers and hinges have never been lubricated. A tune-up visit balances the door, sets the force and travel, lubricates every moving part and tests the reversal. If the spring turns out to be undersized for the door, it is swapped at the spring price and the rest of the tune-up is included.

The door lifts about a foot and stops. What is it?

A broken torsion spring, almost every time. The opener pulls, meets the full weight of the door with nothing counterbalancing it, and shuts down to save its gear. Look at the shaft over the door for a two-inch gap in the coil, and stop pressing the button, because each try wears the gear a little more. On a Round Rock house from the 2000s with its original springs, the spring is simply out of cycles, and both are replaced at once.

A spring that broke with the car inside goes to the front of the day. Call (737) 345-3608 and say so.
